Greenwich is an interesting suburb on Sydney’s lower north shore and is only around 7km from Sydney’s CBD (as the crow flies). We just love its heritage and enjoy taking a stroll around the suburb at any time of year.
Greenwich is a mix of homes, local businesses and industry including the Gore Bay Terminal. Interestingly, Greenwich’s foreshores have long been home to light industry with shipbuilders and brickmakers calling Greenwich home for many years. Shell has even been there since 1901!
A wander through Greenwich’s streets will show you gorgeous homes and gardens, an array of different flowers and harbour views around almost every corner. Our favourite spot is the Greenwich Baths – a secluded harbour beach that has buckets of beach toys for visitors to share and comfy sun lounges. We also love to stop for a picnic at Mary Carlson Park before meandering past all the gardens. They’re overflowing with grevillea, banksia, flowering gums and other wildflowers as well as beautiful tropical plants like the hibiscus. Along the harbour foreshore walks there are secluded gullies where you’ll find ferns and moss growing out of moisture filled rocks.
Or if you are visiting Greenwich Hospital you can take a peek at the hospital’s beautifully floral gardens. The roses are so welcoming and will put a smile on any face.
