How to choose the best Bereavement Flowers Sydney

It’s a sad fact of life that we must all deal with loss at some time. Our team are here to provide advice and guidance during those sorrowful times.

Many customers call or come into the store asking how they can best show their condolences to the deceased’s family. Or, alternatively, what type of funeral flowers they should send to the service in Sydney, Australia.

We get asked many questions and we have developed a brief guide to help you select the most appropriate funeral or sympathy flowers.

Funeral Flowers

Funeral flowers are those that are sent to the funeral home, crematorium or church. The family generally arranges the casket sprays and arrangements for the altar. However, wreaths (symbolising eternal life), classic sheath-spray bouquets or a traditional arrangement in a vase or pot are usually a welcome addition for the grieving family.

Bereavement Flowers

An alternative to organising funeral flowers is to send sympathy flowers to the home or office of the deceased’s family. These are usually seasonal bouquets or arrangements. It’s always a nice idea to purchase the arrangement with a pot or vase so that the grieving family doesn’t need to look for a vase and can care for the flowers easily.

Colours

This is one of the most frequent questions we’re asked. White or cream is the most traditional funeral and condolence flower colour. Some people prefer soft, pretty pastels or big bold colours to cheer up the family. There is no set rule and we generally suggest to go by what you feel the family will appreciate most. For example, if they’re traditional, stay with whites and conventional arrangements. If the deceased had a favourite flower you could perhaps arrange a bouquet of these. Or if you are sending flowers to a male, you could select wildflowers.

Etiquette

There is no definitive etiquette across all funerals these days. Traditions vary between religions and cultures. Ask a close family friend of the deceased’s if you aren’t sure or go with your instinct and choose something you know the deceased would’ve loved.
